Second woman indicted for stealing from elderly man

LAS VEGAS -- A Clark County grand jury issued a superseding indictment in a case in which prosecutors allege a 94-year-old victim, now deceased, was swindled out of roughly $400,000 and an automobile.

Sally Johnson, who was previously indicted, was joined by alleged co-defendant Susan Costello. Prosecutors allege that Costello, a notary public, helped Johnson take the money from the victim's bank account.

Both women face charges of theft, forgery and exploitation of the elderly. Bail was set at $125,000 for both women, and they are scheduled to appear in court Oct. 16. Only Johnson is now in custody at the Clark County Detention Center.

The banks really ought to take a larger responsibility for looking into -and reporting - suspicious activity in an elder account - or be responsible for the loss?

This case is different than you would think. The woman who withdrew the money, knew of the corrupt guardianship interests in Las Vegas. They had victimized two of her friends. She was close with the old man and set up her house for him to live there. But the guardians swooped in to take his savings, took him to a different nursing home and, of course, forbade visits; started pursuing the friend, the notary, and Wells Fargo, civilly, then managed to get criminal charges. After all, the DA and judges are elected, and Jared Shafer spreads a lot of money around in campaign contributions. They have already misused the legal system in pursuing this case.
