Needlessly Suffered

Because of a forced guardianship, my mother had to spend over four years in nursing homes against her will. It didn’t matter to the judge that Mom wanted to live with me. It didn’t matter that she was terrified and abused while in the nursing home. And it doesn’t matter now to the judge that my Mom needlessly suffered total loss of her sight due to nursing home neglect, among other atrocities.

She begged me to take her home but I was powerless to do so. The judge appointed my brother, an attorney apparently still in “good standing” although on psychiatric disability for at least 10 years, as guardian of the property. His illness and irrational behavior plagued my efforts to free Mom because the judge favored my brother over our mother’s best interest.

And my Mother suffered for it.

The person the judge was supposed to be protecting was my Mother, not my brother.

  2. The suffering this woman endured was needless in every way.

Courts who do not listen to what the person wants should be disciplined.

  3. What other business besides long term care can generate income by having vulnerable "ordered" into their facility?

Lobbyists contribute to our problem. Contributions prevent real enforcement of the Nursing Home Reform Act.

People don't seem to show concern for a problem until it affects them. If things don't change, it will. Elders are a large segment of society but their "so-called" spokespeople and advocates aren't effective, by choice or otherwise.

    We need to generate OUTRAGE!

  4. This is a typical story in my county. The local newspaper exposed this type of elder abuse 15 years ago, but it didn't stop the judge, attorneys, a state agency and others in the system. Now, finally, the Judicial Conduct Board is investigating the judge.

  5. Oh, people open your eyes now. Just because the guardianship scheme hasn't come knockin on your door, you are directly affected financially in many ways Number 1 being via Medicaid funded by ...... YOU! the taxpayers.

And, then when the greedy probate mafia hustlers come knockin on your door it will be too late.

Just read the articles and case acccounts on this NASGA blog site and website.

NO ONE, I repeat no one knew or could have known what is involved in the guardianship racket ambush until it was too late all of this by design.

Only with the Internet and some media / press is the truth about guardianships trickling out of the dark snake pits into the sunlight.

  6. "Judges are poltically appointed, politically approved attorneys. These attorneys are not appointed to the Bench for their Integrity; they are appointed because they have political connections. Note how many Lawyers have infiltrated your State Legislature.

These 'political pawn' Bench warmers are rubber stamping every motion their court appointed 'crony' Guardian and/or Conservator's make
while denying due process of law to family members and suppressing their irrefutable evidence in 'favor' of their cronies' unsubstantiated claims given 'credibility' by the 'titles' these unscrupulous 'professionals' have before their names.

These courts operate in 'secret' allowing for wild accusations against family members ruled as fact by these 'bench warmers'. Once these unscrupulous agents of the court have obtained 'guardianship'; they strip all rights of the person now their 'ward' enabling them to displace their 'wards' from their homes and families into facilties, deny medical treatments and family members from Advocating for their loved ones health and well being.

These unscrupulous 'agents of the court' are then free to sell their 'wards' homes and all assets often displacing family members who have given up jobs to care for their loved ones.

These unscrupulous 'agencts of the court' are then free to bill against their 'ward's funds as if it were they were their own piggy bank. Coupled with the high costs of 24/7 professional/facility care, the funds are depleted too soon and the 'ward' becomes the taxpayer's responsibility.

The loving family members are prevented from Advocating for their loved ones 'wards' of the court/Guardian; their loved one is medicated into compliance, neglected and abused. Immobility leads to mortality and premature death.

Healthcare Providers who Speak Out after connecting the dots of FRAUD upon the taxpayers; illegal 'snatching' of vulnerable citizens (elderly, disabled, and children)for personal profit, feeding State Government coffers; and covering up sentinel events of these wards, are egregiously retaliated against: Blacklisted from working in their professions and ultimately they too become victims of the same racket they have attempted to reform."

  7. This beautiful woman actually lost her sight due to neglect at a nursing home where she didn't want to be.

Now, how can anybody make that up to her?

The judge on this case should be thrown off the bench and then the bench thrown at her!

  8. This is a perfect example of a judge gone wild.

Judges defer to the person who is not the primary caregiver or the troublemaker and then they push the caregiver or daughter or son who really has Mom's best interest around, because they know they can. They know that daughter or son will do anything to protect the parent. So, they abuse them.

  11. Whether termed reverse discrimination, bureaucratic malevolent partisan torment, or what,
the dozen matters that I mentioned would be spotlighted are EMBLEMATIC, SYMPTOMATIC, AND REPRESENTATIVE OF A TREND!

Granted Uncle Emery had an unrepaired roof in the garage and uncut grass,
his house was solid and safe!
Granted he was not friendly and cooperative at times, the county should not have hunted him down. Whether Cedeno or Ricardo Roig or JUDGE MARIA (CUBAM BITCH) KORVICK...
Mental health help is offered to spanish speaking elderly people all the time in similar circumstances. He did not even have alzheimer behavior!

Let the light shine on similar cases!
IT IS FRIGHTENING TO THINK THAT OUR LOCAL GOVERNMENT CAN KILL AN UPSTANDING MAN & WIFE, AND THEN DENY ACCOUNTABILITY,
WHILE LETTING CONTRACTORS CUT UP STREETS AND CAUSE HILLS AND GULLIES!:

overzealous, unreasonable, and vengeful County and State employees caused the taking of the home of my beloved uncle, Emery Sorenson, a decorated veteran of the US Navy and retired US Postal Service employee with 34 years of service. The lawyers took their pound of flesh, the judges just pushed it along, and this beautiful and strong couple was killed off.

I WILL NEVER FORGET HOW PROBATE COURT JUDGE WOULD NOT LET ME SAY ONE WORD IN HER COURT IN HIS DEFENSE, HOW SHE SHUT UP THIS GRINGO!

Richard - what a shame! If you have a complaint about a judge, you can file with the Judical Qualifications Commission in Tallahassee. It regulates judges and can investigtae their behavior on the bench.

    Dear Carmel Cafiero,

Your report on WSVN NEWS about code enforcement harassment was quite hard hitting.
Here is another horrible example of the power of government turned BAD; although it happened a while ago, this should serve to prevent similar abuses.

Several overzealous, unreasonable, and vengeful Miami Dade County and State employees, especially Ricardo "Mad Dog" Roig and Abel Cedeno (pronounced se dane yo) caused the taking of the home of my beloved uncle, Emery Sorenson, a decorated veteran of the US Navy and retired US Postal Service employee with 35 years of service in Miami. Perhaps he did not act apologetically, contritely, or friendly enough??? The government failed, irregardless!!! With illegal immigration out of control, priorities have been confounded.

In a tangled web of circumstances, Probate Court Judge Maria Korvick and probate attorneys (who profited handsomely) appointed by the Probate Court railroaded a once tall and proud homeowner and his wife into a jail-like facility from his spacious corner home at 12 NW 86 Street....merely because the roof had a few leaks and the grass needed to be mowed, etcetera. They had been absent from the house, and he had plenty of money to pay for minor repairs, if only these bureaucrats would have tried kindness instead of combative tactics.

When I attempted to speak in Judge Maria Korvick's court, I said "Your Honor"... whereupon she said if I said one more word, I would be jailed for contempt. I could not believe that I was in the USA! A Professor, with a pre med BS degree from UChicago and MA from Washington U., I had been employed by the State of FL as a Senior Counselor in HRS' Division of Vocational Rehabilitation from 1972 to 1978.. My wife also worked for the state for 30 or so.
Some friendly counseling would have been fair and just, instead of cleaning them out of their assets and forcing he and his wife into an institution where they died miserable and forlorn deaths.

EVEN THOUGH NOTHING CAN BE DONE FOR THEM, THERE SHOULD BE AN INVESTIGATION OF THE CONDUCT OF THESE GOVERNMENT AGENTS!
THE SORENSONS WERE QUITE "COMPETENT', as their neighbors would attest.
