Facilities often give residents feeding tubes for their convenience. They don't want to spend the time necessary to see that the residents eat well, so they opt for a feeding tube.
That further feeds the "life support" misconception of feeding tubes.
I'm relieved to see lawyers going after the nursing home. Sadly, by filing a lawsuit it's the only way to validate the incident. Where is the criminal investigation? Death by starvation and dehydration is a horrible way to die, I know, I could not stop it, I was forced to witness this type of event, the intentional elimination of a ward. The guardian had the authority and no one could stop the guardian.
Death by starvation and dehydration is worse than a state execution. In capital punishment, at least they see to the "comfort" of the soon to die best they can.
The pain of the body shutting down cannot be lessened with morophine or any other drug. It's torture.
I hope this suit will be successful. The only way to clean up nursing homes in general is to force them to pay out large settlements for their incompetence, abuse or negligence.
Our government is not doing enough to protect its citizens if businesses are permitted to operate this way.

ReplyDeleteA person pays more to languish in a nursing home than he/she would pay to stay in a 5 star hotel.
ReplyDeleteAnd what do they get for their money?
Service? No.
