This is what being chemically restrained does. He has been administered 5 mg of Haldol daily for 5 months straight at the time of this video. Medicare/Medicaid guidelines have 2 mg a day as their threshold amount. Haldol is not recommended for older people with dementia by doctors at respectable institutions. Watch out for this drug being administered unnecessarily to your older loved ones.

Chemically Restrained on 5 mg Haldol Daily for 5 Months
I wonder how this man feels as his mind is struggling through the cobwebs of Haldol.
ReplyDeleteHis family takes great care of him.
Haldol?
ReplyDeleteRidiculous!
It's an older anti-psychotic, which has fallen from use even for schizophrenics because there are more effective treatments that clear up delusional thinking without the serious side effects of Haldol.
And they're using it on an elderly person?
Really, this is medical malpractice.
Just when I thought I had seen the worst of how we treat the elderly...this is so sickening.

This is so hard to watch. Bless this man.
ReplyDeleteHaldol is a very dangerous mind numbing drug. My brain injured brother was on this for years shrinking his frontal lobe. Then more recently he has been on Risperdol (and I think he has tardive dyskenisia from it with involuntary tongue movements and mouth sucking)and now he is on Abilify which has a black box warning for elderly people with dementia (high risk of death from strokes, heart attacks, or pneumonia). When I brought this up to the doctor his remark was "well, all drugs have black boxes on them and I am perfectly happy with his medicine prescriptions" which includes Lexapro, Lamictal, Lunesta and Xanax.
ReplyDeleteWhen will this medical insanity end?
I think what the government has to do to stop these outrages is use IT to monitor improper use of antipsychotic drugging, among other things.
