Investigative journalist joins Bev Cooper to detail his recent investigations into guardian abuse both in Chicago and in Memphis, Tennessee.
Volpe is the author of two books, "Prosecutors Gone Wild" and "The Definitive Dossier of PTSD in Whistleblowers", and Volpe will talk about Norman Hughes, a Korean and Vietnam War veteran who is being held against his will in a nursing home in Memphis, and Mildred Willis, whose family recently lost their home on the order of the Cook County Public Guardian.

ReplyDeleteI am so glad to see a journalist taking on this subject. It really is Pulitzer Prize material.
ReplyDeleteThank you Bev Cooper! I'm going to watch now.
ReplyDeleteWow - I read both articles, Mr. Hughes, and Mrs. Willis, but didn't realize they are from the same author. Both cases are travesties of justice and I hope media attention brings relief for these families. Thank You Mr. Volpe.
ReplyDeleteGiving thanks on Sunday morning. I see this on my favorite place NASGA blog, I think I'm dreaming so no one wake me please, but when I see the word: investigate or any derivative as in Investigative Journalist Michael Volpe my heart is all a flutter with gratitude and deep appreciation. How admirable to step up, speak up and shout out loud for those who are truly in need especially a Veteran to get their story out. I hope to see more more and much more of Michael Volpe. Thank you Sir.
ReplyDeleteThank you for reporting these stories, Mr. Volpe. I admire your courage. Many reporters say they'll do an article but they just fade away. Thank you for being different. It gives me great hope.
ReplyDeleteMichael is unfamiliar to me but I can tell he sharp, he is sincere, he certainly has P A S S I O N. I think he is a golden link good news for the good guys vs the bad guys.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes Michael you are on to 'something' more than you know keep digging, the truth gets uglier and uglier.
PS I have to come back with a PS boohoo for the lawyer who claims Michaels questioning is too aggressive for him, a him? better yet what a hoot boohoo that would be my cue to come in with no mercy like lawyers do when they smell blood they go for the kill. Any wonder why they are known as sharks?
ReplyDeleteI am still fuming about the Norman Hughes story. This is what Veterans get for their sacrifice? We all say we appreciate our Veterans, but if we really did, Mr. Hughes wouldn't be in that awful situation.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Tina D. It's not only great to see these issues hit the media but to see a reporter who is passionate about it just sends cold chills down my spine. It's wonderful and I can't thank reporter Volpe enough for all he is doing to bring these injustices to light.
ReplyDeleteHighly recommended.
ReplyDeleteVery much looking forward to more guest appearances by Michael Volpe.
I plan to stock up on DVD's for distribution. Thank you Bev and Michael.
Thank you for telling it like it is . No words minced. People who prey on the vulnerable for profit are scum, Pure scum. It does me good to hear such a frank discussion.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the nice comments. I have read them, and don't forget to check out my two books; I cover all sorts of injustices with guardianship abuse only being the latest.
ReplyDeleteAs it is in Illinois, it is everywhere else in the Country and the rest of the so called Civilized World..!!
ReplyDeleteIf we spent just a fraction of what we spend on War, on the equality of the Elderly and Disabled wouldn't the world be a better place..!!
It all reminds me of the old saying, better to be Rich and Guilty, than Poor and Innocent .... !!
BB,
ReplyDeleteyour comment is inexplicable. Did you watch the video? Mr. Hughes had $150,000 in cash at the start of this. Ms. Willis owned a home free and clear. In fact, it is the wealthy who provide for the most inviting targets for corrupt players in probate, because they have money which can be pilfered. If anything, the very idea of guardianship fits into the old adage by Ronald Reagan, "the nine most terrifying words in the English language are 'I'm from the government and I'm here to help.'"
Probate is an example of government bureaucracy run amok and you say we should spend more; for what more GALs, public guardians, more probate judges.
What we need is less power in the hands of these people not more. It doesn't sound like you watched the video but rather you had a pre-planned comment based entirely on your preconceived ideology.
Great interview!
ReplyDeleteGreat show, Bev and Michael. Michael, thank you for exposing the Willis cae in Cook County. There are more victims of the Cook County Public Guardian. Please go to this website, and see a listing of their cases. Look at the contact lists in the cases, and speak to some family members... This will be your ticket to the real expose, and the Pulitzer Prize.
ReplyDeleteWhen you click on this link, type in "Public Guardian" and click on the box that says "representative". This will take you to the list of cases, which can be reviewed on the 12th floor of the Daley Center.

Thank you for all your hard work on this issue... please keep digging...
Great interview, Bev! Thank you for all you are doing for victims such as our families.
ReplyDeleteMichael is a passionate and articulate investigative journalist, and his efforts are greatly appreciated.
We have a huge problem with corruption in the Cook County Probate Court. If you have been affected, please visit this website to learn how to report the activities on your case to the proper authorities:
www.probateabusemanual.blogspot.com
There is an index on the right hand side which will be helpful for you. Click on the "How to Obtain Court Records and Transcripts" to look at the docket in your case, and to search for other cases in which the same guardian was used (ie., the Public Guardian).
Thank you Michael and Bev!!!
This journalist knows his stuff. He's done his research and he gets it. I think even Bev Cooper was surprised with how knowledgeable Michael is. Well done both of you.
ReplyDeleteHi, I just found your website. I've been thinking about this for many years and have studied Kant. I became aquainted with your show when you interviewed a black attorney who is a civil engineer.
ReplyDeleteI became a conspiracy theorist after seeing the corruption in our courts up here in Canada.
Kant explains Christianity and Christianity gives us the ground from which to judge truth. Kant's book, Religion Within The Boundaries Of Mere Reason taught me about Christian Doctrine. I now know why they want to wreck the courts and I explain it here:
http://dougplumb.blogspot.ca/2016/10/why-are-christians-being-persecuted.html
I also did a movie about Christian philosophy called "Law, The Light Of Reason And Conscience"
These things you discuss are the most important and they should be getting the most attention.
