Jennifer Reynolds Kee, 36, was arrested by agents from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) who followed up on an elderly woman's complaint that Kee had used her credit card for an unauthorized purchase.
Kee was not formally employed by the woman, but, investigators say, was helping her with various day-to-day activities.
Recent changes in state law gave the GBI authority to investigate financial crimes against the elderly.
A spokesman said the investigation revealed that Kee had used the victim's card in January to buy $225.78 worth of vinyl and transfer tape from Plotter and Press in Newnan. The victim had not given her permission to make that purchase.
She complained to the GBI.
Agents executed a search warrant on Kee's home, which she owns with her husband, Grantville City Councilman Willie Kee. There, they found evidence to support the complaint and arrest Kee.
She was taken to the Coweta County Jail and booked on charges of fraud, theft by taking and elderly exploitation. She has since been released on $7,200 bond.
This is the second recent arrest of Jennifer Kee. She was arrested and pleaded guilty for a 2016 theft of more than $15,000 while serving as treasurer of the Glanton Elementary School PTO.
In that case, she was sentenced to 10 years in jail with only six to serve on charges of theft by taking and fourth-degree forgery. She served six months in jail but was released on probation. She was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine and complete 1,000 hours of community service.
