Macomb County Woman Faces Additional Charges for Stealing From a Second Vulnerable Adult

LANSING – A Macomb County woman is facing an amended nine-count felony complaint for theft from a vulnerable adult, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced today.

Lisa Ludy, 52, of Macomb, waived formal arraignment in Macomb County 41A-1 District Court in Shelby Township on a nine-count felony complaint, in which she was charged with the following:

  • One count of Conducting a Criminal Enterprise, punishable by 20 years and/or $100,000, pursuant to MCL 750.159(i)(1);
  • Six counts of Financial Transaction Device-Stealing/Retaining Without Consent, punishable by 4 years and/or $5,000, pursuant to MCL 750.157n(1);
  • One count of Embezzlement from a Vulnerable Adult - $1,000 or More, But Less Than $20,000, punishable by 5 years and/or $10,000, pursuant to MCL 750.174a(4)(a); and
  • One count of Witness-Bribing/Intimidating/Interfering, punishable by 4 years and/or $5,000, pursuant to MCL 750.122(7)(a).

After waiving arraignment, the matter proceeded to preliminary examination before Judge Shepherd, along with Ludy’s other pending case in which she faces an additional nine-count felony complaint for stealing from another vulnerable adult for whom she also served as guardian and conservator. Those additional charges include:

  • One count of Conducting a Criminal Enterprise, punishable by 20 years and/or $100,000, pursuant to MCL 750.159(i)(1);
  • Two counts of Embezzlement $1,000 to $20,000, pursuant to MCL 750.174(4)(a), 5-year felonies;
  • One count of Embezzlement $20,000 to $50,0000, pursuant to MCL 750.174(5)(a), a 10-year felony;
  • One count of Embezzlement $50,000 to $100,000, pursuant to MCL 750.174(6), a 15-year felony; and
  • Four counts of Failure to File Tax Return, pursuant to MCL 205.27(1)(a), 5-year felonies.

“Financial exploitation of seniors and other vulnerable adults is a serious crime that calls for substantial penalties, Nessel said. "My office is committed to investigating and prosecuting those who seek to exploit the very people whose lives guardians and conservators are charged with protecting.”

Please note: A criminal charge is merely an allegation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. The Department does not provide booking photos.
