Guardianship / Conservatorship Report

In January 2009, a study group report entitled Report of the Guardianship and Conservatorship Study Group was published by the State Court Administrator’s Office to make recommendations to the Minnesota Legislature on various issues, including the rights of protected persons and the powers and duties of guardians and conservators.

Among the report’s recommendations were to educate family members, interested persons, and guardians on the duties, responsibilities, and limitations of guardians.

  1. Educate them on their duties? Geez.

They know their duties. They know exactly what they're doing when they're profiting off of the backs of the vulnerable.

  2. The strange Guardian/Conservator needs to have the duties spelled out specifically in Law vs
'best interest of the ward'....what does that mean? Anything a clever, unscrupulous Attorney wants. Attorneys know the law and know how to get around it for their own personal interests. These broad, vague laws are designed to by Attorney/Legislators to allow their cronies to profit and feed State coffers for displacing seniors in State run long term care facilities: Warehouses for the elderly.
Would any reasonable person want their loved one locked up without any rights in a State Facility?

  3. Well, someone in Minnesota woke up or thawed out. Gee, let's see how many years has guardianship been a fact of life up there? Now, in 2009 they are going to educate the guardians and concervators? Does the saying, better late than never apply here? Must be the cold long winters, brain freeeeeeeze, looks like someone's brain thawed out long enough to figure this out and get with the program. Hee haw

  5. MN is at least looking at guardianship -- that's the real battle -- getting them to look.

  6. Educate family, interested persons, and guardians of duties, responsibilities, and limitations?

For crying out loud, educate judges who allow cases to be turned into a feeding frenzy for laweyrs. Educate judges that the pros are the greedy sob's, not the family. Educate the elderly and vulnerable beefore they become prey....

They're giving a standard response designed to show they are interested --- and that will be it.
