Where are They Now? The Fight over Terri Schiavo's Fate and Her Family

It was the question that bitterly divided the nation in the '90s: Should Terri Schiavo live or be allowed to die? In 2003, Oprah spoke with Terri's mother and siblings about Terri's health and their desire to continue her medical treatment. However, in 2005, Terri's husband, Michael Schiavo, won his legal battle to have her feeding tube removed. She died on March 31, 2005.

    No matter what ones politics are, if the Governor, the President --- and the POPE himself couldn't save Terri Schiavo, we should all pause and think what that means to each of us.

    To me it means the judicial system has too much power.

    This is a case that hit hard a case that I can't forget. I was opposed to the court order.

    A case that forever changed the family of Terri along with the course of their life.

    I totally understand how one act can dramatically change the lives of the departed's loved ones and supporters.

    If the country and our courts allowed this, what makes any one of think that we can save our loved ones from the guardianship trap?

    A case that attained worldwide attention I remember that time and place the anguish on the family's faces, the faces of Florida Governor Jeb Bush, President Bush and Pope John Paul II.

    Terri's family is remarkable for their dedication to keep Terri's memory alive, with dignity and respect.
