Arizona: State Finds Filth, Bed Bugs at Valley Assisted Living Home Exposed In ABC15 Investigation

A state health department investigation was launched because an ABC15 report found multiple problems at an assisted living facility for disabled and vulnerable adults, records show.

Inspectors with the Arizona Health Services Department visited The Lodge at 14th Street two days after an undercover ABC15 investigation.

The facility was forced to file a plan of correction and fix the problems. At this point, it's not clear if further action will be taken against the facility or its management.

The full inspection report and plan of correction  was released to ABC15 through a public records request.

State inspection mirrors ABC15 investigation
In late February, the ABC15 Investigators went undercover at The Lodge  and shot or obtained videos and pictures to document the conditions.

Our report revealed filthy rooms, residents in tattered and dirty clothing, blood- and bug-stained mattresses without sheets or blankets, and evidence of past and current bed bug problems.
State inspectors found the exact same problems.

In addition, they found issues with a lack of proof of employee certifications and background checks.

  1. It takes the media to dig this out? Good for the media; bad for the gov!

  2. This reminds me of the infamous Scott Schuett, the operator of six filthy, dangerous adult homes with 400 people in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia.

Our public officials and public guardianship program dumped elderly and disabled victims into Scott Schuett's hellholes over and over again, violated the law and a court order, funded Scott Schuett and his unethical enablers, including corrupt attorneys and a ubiquitous, hand-picked guardian ad litem "for" incapacitated people, to the tune of millions of dollars, and spooned with Scott Schuett in every way imaginable.

Now that Scott Schuett is quite predictably the subject of multi-million dollar lawsuits, described as "just the tip of the iceberg," these public officials and public guardianship programs are scrambling to cover up their wrongdoing, neglect, abuse, and illegal conduct.

The tactic? Shoot the messenger, of course.

Will it work? Not in front of a jury, folks, so you better do the unthinkable: YOUR JOB.

Protect these people, or get out of the way, because others will step up if you refuse to do so.

  3. I thought of Scott Schuett as well, Anonymous. And how many other facilities are out there doing the same?
