SC Reaches Settlement With Eli Lilly Over Zyprexa

Attorney General Henry McMaster said Friday that South Carolina reached a $45 million settlement with pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly over the company's marketing of the anti-psychotic drug Zyprexa.

Eli Lilly confirmed it is the largest monetary settlement any state has won from the company. McMaster also said it was the second-largest state settlement in South Carolina history, behind the multibillion dollar settlement the state received from the 1998 tobacco agreement.

"This is a victory for South Carolina's taxpayers who were forced to bear the financial costs of Eli Lilly's unlawful conduct," McMaster said in a statement. "Our case was sound. The evidence we presented was overwhelming. And I am pleased to say justice has been served."

As part of the settlement, Eli Lilly didn't admit to any wrongdoing.

Spokeswoman Marni Lemons said Eli Lilly felt it was in the best interests of the company, patients and physicians "who rely on Zyprexa as a lifesaving medication to put this issue behind us."

Just think, Lilly is paying $45 mil for the settlement -- just think what they're making that they can afford to pay such a settlement.

This is like the smoking scandals and the big pay offs the cigarette mogels had to pay.

Keep in mind that many big pharma may make a conscious decision to go ahead and market or circulate their drug(s) illegally, knowing that they'll be fined when they get caught. But, the profits will outweigh that fine.

I wonder if all the other states are following suit.

Zyprexa, given to an elderly person, can be devestating and cause that person to have symptoms of dementia.

So, if a guardian lands an elderly person, they can then dope them up with zyprexa and actually incapacitate them.

Eli Lilly sells a drug {ZYPREXA} that can cause diabetes and then turn a profit on the drugs that treat the condition that they may have caused in the first place!

Eli Lilly has made $38 billion on Zyprexa and it was way oversold and caused diabetes and in some cases sudden death.
Eli Lilly has received a huge criminal fine over their Zyprexa cash cow,add it all up comes to $4.6 billion, in Zyprexa settlements, fines, litigation.

Addictive Zyprexa was pushed by Lilly Drug Reps.
They called it the "Five at Five" (5 mg at 5 pm to keep nursing home patients subdued and sleepy) and "VIVA ZYPREXA" (Zyprexa for everybody) campaigns to off label market Eli Lilly Zyprexa as a fix for unapproved usage.

Eli Lilly is 'reaping the whirlwind' for aggressive marketing of Zyprexa that has caused suffering and deaths.
There must be millions out there harmed by this drug.

Did you know that Lilly made nearly $3 billion last year on diabetic meds, Actos,Humulin and Byetta?

Yes! They sell a drug that can cause diabetes and then turn a profit on the drugs that treat the condition that they may have caused in the first place!
