The sentencing date has been set for a disgraced northeastern Pennsylvania judge convicted of taking $1 million in bribes from a real estate developer who built a pair of private juvenile detention facilities.
A federal judge scheduled the sentencing hearing for former Luzerne County Judge Mark Ciavarella for August 11.
Ciavarella was convicted in February of counts including money laundering and wire fraud as part of the scheme involving another judge.
Prosecutors alleged Ciavarella and former county President Judge Michael Conahan ran a kickback scheme involving the closure of the county-run juvenile facility and the construction of two private detention centers. Conahan pleaded guilty to racketeering last year.
The scandal prompted the state Supreme Court to throw out thousands of juvenile cases handled by Ciavarella.

Surely there's someone out there working on a full length feature film of these two buzzards.
This isn't the only judge involved in corrupt real estate deals.
ONe case reviewed by our team in Cook County Illinois appears to have real estate sales laundered in the wards' estate.
In addition, our review showed that the Office of the Public Guardian of Cook County, IL, sells the wards' homes within 6 weeks; this has occurred since at least 2005, per a review of their cases. The homes are often placed into trusts after the sale, so the buyer cannot be identified. Then the home is sold a short while later for a substantial profit.
People are profitting off the sales of wards' homes in Cook County Illinois, and it is not the ward who is profitting.
THis needs to be investigated.

Go to the index on the right, and read about the Office of the Public Guardian and the Outrageous Real Estate Deals that occur as the wards of Cook County, IL are exploited by the vultures in the court system.
I was hoping when the Cash for Kids scandal broke, the entire judiciary would shiver and straighten up. But, they didn't. There are going to have to be more scandals revealed.
