A Missouri senator wants the state to expand its law on elder abuse by adding language to protecting older citizens from financial exploitation.
Sen. Kevin Engler is proposing to make it a crime for those with authority over an elderly person to take advantage of the older person's state of mind for financial gain. The legislation would apply to people who have guardianship, power of attorney or some other financial management role for seniors.

I wonder if this legislation involves lawyers and the professionals. The wording here is "people" -- that generally indicates they're talking about family.
Yes, it does. And that's good.
This law shoud and must apply to all fiduciaries, family, non-family and 'professional' guardians of person and estate.
Just remember the special interest groups might have influence in the LANGUAGE AND INTENT OF THE LAW!
Think for a moment, who might be included in any special interest group regarding fiduciaries? Got it now?
The trend to expand elder abuse laws is escalating. Let's see if they have 'teeth'. Most of all, how far will they go in actually stopping court-sanctioned abuse?
