Lost Trust

My family has been traumatized.

We have spent day in and day out trying to find someone to help us.

There are no words that describe the kind of pain you have watching your loved ones get locked away.

And then you are told that you can not go visit them.

I am sure that they were scared.

We were scared.

We feel lost.

We only knew a life of being together as a family. But it is gone.

We do not trust anyone that works for the justice system.

We do not trust the county we live in.

We are constantly looking over our shoulder to see what the people are doing.

We believe they are murderers and thieves.

The Right to Life

One day several months ago on a main highway which passes through the town in which I live, both sides of the road were packed, knee deep, with people of all shapes and sizes. Something big was happening here. There were mothers with baby carriages and fathers with their kids perched up on their shoulders. I saw grandmothers and grandfathers. They were white, black, Asian, Hispanic. Some were sitting and others were standing. I had never seen anything like it, so naturally, I was curious. As I drove, I slowed down so I could read the signs that some were holding. I soon came to realize that they were supporters of an organization whose members believed in the “right to life.”

Their signs read “Don’t kill unborn babies” and “abortion is murder.” As I drove on I came upon a group of people encouraging the passing traffic with signs containing the words: “honk if you love life.”

I didn’t honk.

It is not that I don't love life. It’s that I know some secrets about life. As an advocate for the elderly, especially those who become victims of abusive guardianships and conservatorships, I have seen first hand the possible nightmares that are in store for the “babies” that this crowd so diligently fights to bring into this world.

When the “baby” grows old and frail there are no demonstrations when all their civil and constitutional rights are taken away or when the “baby” is isolated from the people and places they know and love, removed from their homes and warehoused in institutions where they will be forced into incontinence, subjected to physical, chemical and psychological restraints against their will and have a perfect stranger appointed by the court who will ignore the wishes of the baby and instead will make all of the decisions for the rest of the “baby’s” life.

The stranger is given the misnomer of “guardian”. The crowd holding up their signs might be shocked to learn that this “guardian” can not only dictate how the “baby” lives, but also how the “baby” dies.

You might find this hard to believe, but just ask Sarah Harvey. Her husband Gary is lying in a hospital bed in New York while a group of people, some of which might have even been a demonstrator once, are meeting to discuss removing her husband’s feeding tube which will cause him to experience a slow, agonizing death. Sarah’s one wish is for her husband to come home to die. But, the “guardian” who makes the decisions for the “baby” refuses.

And this is just one example of why I could not bring myself to honk.

Healthcare Providers Are Victims Too

Judges are politically appointed, politically approved attorneys. These attorneys are not appointed to the Bench for their Integrity; they are appointed because they have political connections. Note how many Lawyers have infiltrated your State Legislature.

These 'political pawn' Bench warmers are rubber stamping every motion their court appointed 'crony' Guardian and/or Conservator's make while denying due process of law to family members and suppressing their irrefutable evidence in 'favor' of their cronies' unsubstantiated claims given 'credibility' by the 'titles' these unscrupulous 'professionals' have before their names.

These courts operate in 'secret' allowing for wild accusations against family members ruled as fact by these 'bench warmers'. Once these unscrupulous agents of the court have obtained 'guardianship'; they strip all rights of the person now their 'ward' enabling them to displace their 'wards' from their homes and families into facilities, deny medical treatments and family members from Advocating for their loved ones health and well being.

These unscrupulous 'agents of the court' are then free to sell their 'wards' homes and all assets often displacing family members who have given up jobs to care for their loved ones.

These unscrupulous 'agents of the court' are then free to bill against their 'ward's funds as if it were they were their own piggy bank. Coupled with the high costs of 24/7 professional/facility care, the funds are depleted too soon and the 'ward' becomes the taxpayer's responsibility.

The loving family members are prevented from Advocating for their loved ones 'wards' of the court/Guardian; their loved one is medicated into compliance, neglected and abused. Immobility leads to mortality and premature death.

Healthcare Providers who Speak Out after connecting the dots of FRAUD upon the taxpayers; illegal 'snatching' of vulnerable citizens (elderly, disabled, and children)for personal profit, feeding State Government coffers; and covering up sentinel events of these wards, are egregiously retaliated against: Blacklisted from working in their professions and ultimately they too become victims of the same racket they have attempted to reform.

Memories

I often think and pray that I died a sudden death because sickness could lead into an institution.

Memories of the horror I have seen creeps into my thinking.

I want to run away, just don’t know where.

I have missed my grandchildren grow.

I have had problems with my husband.

He has questioned my sanity, and so have I.

But one thing I know, I am not insane, just as the people who have done this to me are still breathing.

My sanity is intact, emotionally I am not.

I have smiled when I wanted to cry.

I suppress my anger.

Hurt and frustration has affected my health.

I can’t sleep thinking that at any time, a single person can take my mother away, my daughter, grandchildren, husband or me, and do as they please and I have no say on it.

There is no protection.

Victimized

This whole experience has made me personally very cynical about our system of justice.

Unfortunately, hearing others' stories has only added to my feeling that our civil rights are being trampled and disregarded by the very people who are supposed to protect them.

Instead of being protected by the law, the elderly are victimized by it.

My mother's money is being used to fight her family in the courts.

They keep her from us.

If Mom could truly speak for herself, I know she would be the first to condemn those who are perpetrating this evil.

A Society of Consumerism

Guardianship made me question my sense of values.

As someone who has worked within the criminal justice system, I honestly thought that there was such a thing being innocent until proven guilty, and consequently felt protected.

I thought that if you went to school, worked hard, followed the law, and treated others as you would like other to treat you, you would be a success.

I have realized that all my life I had mislead people; children, and myself into a lie.

The truth is that this is a society of consumerism.

If your shoes tear, they get thrown away --- it is cheaper.

If your TV breaks, you buy a new one --- it is cheaper.

If you get old, you are placed in a nursing home --- it is cheaper.

There is no value in the sentiment of things much less in the value and wisdom of old people.

There is no use for them.

They are also dispensable.

With guardianship, there is no nurturing, no bond, to anyone or anything.

Drained

I felt like a failure.

I felt like I let my husband down.

It made me feel that there was something wrong with me --that I am not good enough to care for him.

They took away all my rights and freedom.

No marriage. No pride. No hope. No future.

There are days I feel like giving up and stopping the fight.

But I keep in mind if I were to do that, my husband would have no-one.

I am drained emotionally.

I cannot stay focused on my job.

I am forgetful on simple tasks.

I never used to be this way.

Guardianship Made Me

Made me feel 'hopeless and helpless' to protect my child from abuse and stop his pain and suffering.

Made me feel anger and contempt for the Judicial System.

Made me an outspoken Advocate and allowed me to set aside my fears and to push forward.

Made me realize that whatever work we do whether in groups or individually, it has some effect as long as we keep the 'goals' in mind:

Reform so others do not have to suffer as we did/do.

Mixed Emotions

I cry.

It is like I lost a part of me I can no longer find.

I am often sad.

I think back to everything I have been forced to go through unnecessarily, and question, how I have been able to endure it.

I feel angry.

I do not know what to do at the time, or if things would have turned out differently if I had been able to do more, or done less.

I feel frustrated.

Unless I am actively “getting back” by spreading the word, like a little child, telling people that I am hurting, and pointing my finger to those who have done it!

I get nasty or sarcastic.

I try or tell people about what happened to my mother and they look away uninterested or question the veracity of what I am saying.

I find myself saying that they will think of me when it happens to them;

but it will be too late.

Robbed

I was one of the primary caregivers for my Grandmother.

I deeply resent all the time I had to spend fighting for her when I could have spent that time just being with her.

Guardianship victims are robbed of so much more than money.

Guardianship Taught Me ---

--- to mistrust people.

--- to disrespect attorneys and judges.

--- to feel threatened.

--- to believe that Nazism does exist.

Trading Crooks

In 1997 my mother just wanted nothing to do with me.

I am an only child and she is an only child.

She surrounded herself with nothing but a set of crooks and people that she never liked.

So I took her into court.

All I did was trade one set of crooks for another.

The conservator had me barred from the house.

She had a housekeeper that took my mother to a check cashier and then stole a check that was going to the house.

I spent a lot of money to protect my mother.

I had to protect my mother against the crooks and the people representing the courts.

I did legally fight the conservator and got her money cut by 75 percent.

However, this was very costly and my life was just put on hold.

I will never be the same person.

I Believed

Before rescuing my parent from an abusive guardianship...

I believed that people involved in elder issues were basically good.

I believed that the written law was always followed by those claiming to help the elderly and always upheld with honor.

I believed that the system would hold accountable any person or agency that abused, neglected or exploited an elderly.

I believed that a guardianship was a last resort designed to protect people and only for their best interest.

I now believe that I believed a pack of lies.
