Woman filmed hitting 94-year-old in police custody, records show

HOUSTON, TX --

A woman accused of assaulting an elderly, disabled woman in Memorial Village is now in custody, according to Houston police records.

Brenda Floyd now sits in a Texas jail cell for a shocking assault that was all caught on camera.

This all began when the 94-year-old woman's son reviewed footage from a home surveillance camera on New Year's Day, and saw her caregiver striking his mother several times.

The victim's son had installed the cameras after he allegedly noticed marks and bruises on his mother.

Police said the victim was struck in the side and on the head for allegedly feeding the dog "people" food.

Tips about her whereabouts flooded into Memorial Village police, and they've been looking for Floyd ever since.

Now, she's behind bars. We are not yet certain how she was located by police, but we do know she is now facing charges for assault of an elderly person.

Woman gets 1 year for nursing home abuse

CHILLICOTHE - A Laurelville woman who assaulted her nursing home patient in March will spend a year in prison.

Ross County Common Pleas Judge Scott Nusbaum told Kali Jo Craiglow, 20, if it had been his mother, he would want to "jump over this bench," eliciting sounds of approval from nearly two dozen people in the courtroom.

"You're going to be placed with inmates that are a lot tougher than an 85-year-old. You may be marked ... Don't allow the stress you're under to take drugs or join gangs," Nusbaum told Craiglow. "You've committed a horrendous offense, but your life is not over."

Stacy Williamson can't say the same for her bedridden mother, Leona Alexander, who she says is constantly scared of being attacked again.

"After the beating that Kali Craiglow gave our mother, we had to have someone sit with her all night for several months, and she would call us at all hours of the night because of how scared she was that someone would beat her again ... The time she has left is miserable thanks to you," Williamson said through tears during her victim impact statement in court.

Alexander had been at Westmoreland Place since 2010 after a stroke mostly paralyzed her, leading her to need round-the-clock care. She can use one hand, but it's weak, Williamson said. Due to her fear, Alexander has since been moved to another nursing home - away from her only living sister who remains at Westmoreland, Williamson said.

"That's all they had was each other and you took that away from her," Williamson told Craiglow.

Williamson described Craiglow as having punched her mother in the face, thrown a glass of water in her face, and threatened she would get worse once they were in the shower. The assault left Alexander's eyes swollen and blackened, the skin on her hand torn. Staten Island nursing home security guard faces assault charges after punching 83-year-old Alzheimer’s patient

A security guard at a Staten Island nursing home punched an 83-year-old Alzheimer’s patient when she tried to leave the building, cops said Tuesday.

Michael Adagba, 55, hit the woman at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Verrazano Nursing Home on Castleton Ave. in Tompkinsville, police said.

She suffered swelling and bruises to her face, head and the left side of her body, according to court papers.

Adagba faces charges of felony and misdemeanor assault and harassment. Neither he nor nursing home officials could be reached for comment.

Dentist and former deputy mayor Andrew Istephan admits assaulting elderly patients

Former Hurstville deputy mayor and dentist Andrew Istephan engaged in the "deliberate, callous and systematic exploitation" of elderly people by performing unnecessary surgery for extra money.

Now Istephan has pleaded guilty to further assault charges relating to major dental procedures on Sydney nursing home residents.

In the Downing Centre District Court on Wednesday, Istephan pleaded guilty to three charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Prosecutors accepted those pleas and dropped four other charges against him.

Istephan, a former Liberal councillor, was convicted of five assault charges at trial in 2013, but a jury could not agree on a verdict for the seven remaining counts. He was due to face re-trial on those charges this month.

At Istephan's trial, the jury heard he began filing down patients' teeth within minutes of meeting them at nursing homes in the inner-west in 2011.

Some of the procedures were not consented to and, in some cases, were not necessary.

Istephan conducted surgery on patients under the Commonwealth-funded Chronic Disease Dental Scheme.

He was contracted by a company called Elderlink, which provided dental and other services to elderly people

The then 34-year-old was sentenced to a two-year intensive correction order, with Judge David Frearson saying Istephan had engaged in the "deliberate, callous and systematic exploitation of the residents with the view of financial reward".

Motivated by greed, Istephan had been "arrogantly dismissive" of the fundamental human right for bodily integrity, the judge said.

"The frail and elderly have a right to be treated with dignity and respect," he said.

"It's wholly reprehensible to exploit the elderly for financial gain."

Istephan will face a sentence hearing in December.
