The New Hampshire House of Representatives on Wednesday rejected a bill that would have legalized assisted suicide.
Lawmakers voted 242-113 to kill the measure. In November, the House Judiciary Committee had recommended against passing the bill by a wide margin, 14-3.
HB 304, introduced by Representative Charles Weed, would have allowed a "mentally competent person who is 18 years of age or older" who was deemed terminally ill to request a fatal drug through a written request.
"It's not the function of government to encourage suicide in the young or the old," said Committee Republican Rep. Nancy Elliott in November. "It's a prescription for elder abuse."

I am so pleased to see another state strike down assisted suicide.
If assisted suicide were permitted, it sure would bring on more elder abuse - like lawyers having their clients sign their assets over to them.
Yes, Thelma, you're on the right track. Assisted suicide just makes it easier on the bad guys.
Spend time and research on relief for pain, not destruction of life.
I believe most elderly people do what their doctors tell them. They trust their doctors and follow their instruction. But, doctors aren't what they used to be. There are some very bad seeds and they aren't discovered and dealt with.
Assisted suicide is an enabler.
Assisted suicide should be a decision of choice. The problem is the deck is stacked if the person making the decision's mind is clouded by drugs and easily led in a particular direction. For that reason, I say NO!
Good move. I could see where assisted suicide would be used to murder people for self-serving reasons. And Wards would be on the hit list.
