Prosecutors and defense attorneys are working to resolve the grand theft case of a married couple accused of stealing $750,000 in inheritance money from three orphaned children in their care.
The defense attorney for Richard Reyes said that prosecutors have made a plea offer of 4 years in state prison for his client.
Reyes' wife and co-defendant, Yvonne Reyes has been offered a sentence of one to two years, said James Reiss, Richard Reyes' defense attorney.
The Rancho Cucamonga couple, who are currently jailed in lieu of $1.4million bail, are accused of stealing the inheritance money over an 18-month period starting in September 2006.

It's like taking candy from a baby! Why?
Was the judge snoozing? Or was he part of the party?
Bonding should be mandated for all professional guardians.
Yes, Anonymous. Bonding should be mandates for all professional guardians. At least, the victims might have a chance of recovery if bonding were mandatory.
I know there is a special place in hell for the perps Richard & Yvonne Reyes and their enablers.
Negligence
And what about retribution? What about paying back the stolen money?
Why a plea bargain when there's so much evidence?
Plea bargains accomplish a lot and save a lot of money, for example a plea bargain:
1) hides facts of the case, the facts do not surface or come out via trial- that is a real negative aspect
2) ensures a conviction (all it takes is one juror who sympathizes or connects with the defendant and the defendant walks .... free with no chance of re-trial) - positive aspect of plea bargain.
3) the perp pleads "guilty" or "no contest" which supports the belief that the offended indeed is guilty. Some prosecutors will not accept "no contest" plea. I agree with their position, we want to hear the words "guilty"!!!
4) case "closed"
