Aint No Sunshine for Rita Denmark

Locked away in a Florida nursing home, completely isolated, and alienated from her children, family, and friends, seventy-nine [79] year old Rita Denmark likely does not even realize she is in "The Sunshine State".

Held against her will and that of her family, Rita has been drugged and is likely still being drugged to "ensure her compliance" and, quell her insistence that she go back home to Pennsylvania where she was born, raised and domiciled her entire life.

In August 2007, boarding the bus with a daughter, Rita believed she was going to Florida to visit her son — truth is, the daughter was hastily removing Rita from Pennsylvania to avoid a pending guardianship hearing in the McKean County court.

Weeks after arriving in Florida, Rita fell prey to a "professional guardian" in the State of Florida, and she has not been allowed to return to Pennsylvania since.

My name is Holly Peffer – Rita Denmark’s other daughter. I fear for my mother’s life.

For more information and or any details relating to the plight of Rita Denmark, feel free to email me at hlpeffer@yahoo.com.

So true! There ain't no sunshine in Florida for the many elders placed under guardianship here. It has become a prolific organization for the court, judge, attorneys and guardians.
My advice: Don't move to Florida for your golden years in the sunshine state!

Isolated from her children and family? I can't imagine much more crueler than that.

Why does the judge allow it?

This story exemplies what we've been seeing in recent posts of articles on psychotropic drugging of the elderly.

I am so sorry for what her family is going through.

Clearly this case belongs in PA but it's also easy money, so FL will try to hold on to it until the estate is bled dry. Then, suddenly, FL will relinquish and let this poor woman go home to her family. It's all about money.

1200 miles from home "living with perfect strangers" Rita says!!!
I am her daughter, Holly, and fell right into this trap, being the one who petitioned for what I view as a "professional thief". My attorney assured me the judge would appoint a professional guardian so, he made a recommendation of one.
My sister has been somewhat financilly dependent on mother for most of her adult life. She has admitted to the Volusia County Court what she did but the Judge doesn't seem to care.
Although a guardian is supposed to act in the wards best interest, it is so easy for "professional thieves" to manipulate the court system with no oversight. They are able to abuse and neglect their ward/prisoner while exploiting them. Our mother was put on anti-psychotic drugs under false pretenses by this guardian with no documentation of a need for these drugs from the nursing staff. These drugs are very danger and often cause sudden death so, ask yourself WHY would Jetta Getty do that to our mother??
Rita's family has put numerous documents in the court file showing that Ms. Getty has lied, has self interest and has violated several Florida Statues. Ms. Getty even admitted to some of her statue violations in the court record so with that said, I think Judge Smith has rubber stamp!
A near and dear friend summed it up for me like this, "your sister stole for survival but, Jetta Getty steals as a profession." I am of the opinion that, he got it right!!!
Please feel free to contact me for more information. I have readily available all documentation and would be happy to share it. I want to be a part of protecting someone elses loved one and am thankful for NASGA for being here for me!!

This breaks my heart. Who knows what Mrs. Denmark is thinking, but you can bet she's feeling abandoned. And here's her daughter fighting as hard as she can but unbeknownst to Mrs. Denmark. It's a crying shame.

Florida should be looking out for its reputation. If stories like this get around, the tourist industry will fold.

And it would serve Florida right.

I will pray for you and your Mother, Holly.

Everyone wants to go home. Some of the greatest songs and books in history have been written about people going home.

Why isn't Rita Denmark allowed to go home?

She's only 79 and has plenty of good years of happiness ahead of her, if she could just go home and be with her family.

Guardianship is worse than the mafia organized crime follow the $....it's all about the money.

No money? No assets? No property?

No guardianship!

Floridians whose families get sucked into these phony guardianships say that Florida is the worst!

Well, then maybe it's time to get together and make a lot of NOISE!

Has the Congressman made any headway in getting a proper investigation into this injustice?

This needs to stop and right now. What are our children going to have when they get old? What do you think will happen?

They may not make it those golden years to find out.
