Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin and Congressman Howard Coble today introduced the Senior Financial Empowerment Act of 2009 (H.R. 3040). The legislation will help stop abusive mail, telemarketing and Internet fraud targeting seniors.
Congresswoman Baldwin: "I became aware of the seriousness and scope of fraud targeting seniors when I helped my own grandmother in her later years. These crimes can have severe financial and emotional consequences for older Americans and their families. Our bill will educate the public, seniors, their families, and their caregivers on how to identify and combat fraudulent activity."

This is a great idea. So many seniors fall victim to enticing mail fraud scams.
I wish there were such an act to protect the rest of us too!
Congresswoman Baldwin sounds like our kind of people!
Things are getting worse due to the economy problems. Citizens need even more protection.
The only thing is this bill addressed the petty scammers. The real scammers (abusive guardians) aren't even scrutinized.
That said, I'm still happy Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin and Congressman Howard Coble introduced their Senior Financial Empowerment Act of 2009 --- it's a beginning.

Herein lies how things get done folks, personal experiences and/or bad things have to happen to the legislators, the governors, the senators etc.
When that happens, there is ACTION!
Until then, we, the little people are shouting out loud about guardianship but until one of the "privileged" has the experience, what we say goes to deaf ears.
Don't we already have this type of law that benefits everyone? Anyone can get his/her name put on a Do Not Call list as well as a No Mail Solicitation list.
