Tennessee mother, boyfriend arrested for abuse of 21-year-old dependent daughter

Belynda Scott and Carlos Johnson are both charged with one count each of aggravated neglect of a vulnerable adult with physical harm; aggravated neglect of a vulnerable adult with bodily injury; and aggravated abuse of a vulnerable adult.

DECATURVILLE, Tenn. (TCD) -- A Tennessee couple was arrested and charged with child abuse and neglect of the woman's adult daughter "who relied on them for care," the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) announced Monday.

TBI agents began an investigation on December 30, 2020, into Decaturville residents Belynda Scott and Carlos Johnson into allegations of abuse and neglect after Scott's daughter was hospitalized in Memphis.

Agents serving a search warrant at Scott and Johnson's home on the 70 block of East Walnut Street determined that between May 1 and December 29, 2020, Scott and Johnson were responsible for the abuse and neglect of Scott's 21-year-old daughter. The daughter relies on the couple for care, according to TBI.

On January 7, agents arrested Scott and Johnson and charged both with one count each of aggravated neglect of a vulnerable adult with physical harm; aggravated neglect of a vulnerable adult with bodily injury; and aggravated abuse of a vulnerable adult.
