WYOMING, Ohio (WXIX) - Two former group
home caregivers are being charged in the death of a functionally
impaired resident in Wyoming, court documents state.
Mgbenta
Djomgoa, 50, of West Chester Township, and 27-year-old Diana Bediako,
of Cincinnati, are the two suspects at the center of the case, Hamilton
County court records show.
On Oct. 28,
2023, Wyoming police and EMS personnel were dispatched to Graceworks
Enhanced Living Group Home at approximately 12:15 p.m. for a report of a
resident not breathing, according to an affidavit.
Officers
found the resident, Daniel Jenkins, “lifeless” in his home, the
affidavit says. While life-saving measures were performed, Jenkins was
pronounced dead that day.
It was later discovered that Djomgoa was the supervisor in charge and Bediako was Jenkins’ listed caregiver that same day.
According
to court documents, Bediako was allegedly the one who found the
resident “lifeless” and told Djomgoa. However, neither caregiver was
proactive in saving his life, despite knowing he could die or was dead.
A warrant for their arrest was not issued until May 9.
Djomgoa
faces one count each of failing to provide for a functionally impaired
person and patient abuse, and Bediako is being charged with failing to
provide for a functionally impaired person and gross patient abuse or
neglect.
“This is a very unfortunate situation. We
can confirm that the individuals named in the police report are no
longer employed by or affiliated with Graceworks in any way,” said
Jackie Daurora, Vice President of Marketing and Advancement for
Graceworks. “Regardless of what miscommunication may have occurred,
these actions are not at all in line with the mission-driven care and
services that Graceworks Enhanced Living has provided for 40 years. Our
hearts go out to the family and members of our community who have been
affected by this very sad situation.”
As of now, both women have not been arrested and are not in jail.
