LINN COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) - A Center Point couple is accused of stealing more than $93,000 from one of their grandmothers.
Aarika and Richard Ortega are both charged with theft and financial exploitation of an older person, money laundering and credit card fraud.
A criminal complaint says Aarika became her grandmother’s guardian in November of 2025.
By March, she had put her grandmother in assisted living and transferred $25,000 out of her account as a “wage” for taking care of her.
The Linn County Sheriff’s Office says they continued to take from the account. Charges included a new dirt bike and pickup truck, repairing a four-wheeler and a trip to a St. Louis Cardinals game, among other charges.
Both are being held at the Linn County Jail.
