Adam Lopez arraigned on Class One felony for financial exploitation

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WICS/WRSP) — There are new developments in the case against former District 186 School Board Vice president and businessman Adam Lopez.

Lopez was arraigned on a Class One felony for financially exploiting a person with disabilities Thursday.

The court also gave attorney-client privilege to some documents that were seized when he was arrested.

He's accused of mishandling more than half a million dollars of those who trusted him.

Lopez's trial is scheduled to start on Jan. 7, 2019.

Adam Lopez indicted on additional charge of financial exploitation

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - Springfield School Board Vice President Adam Lopez has now been indicted on an additional charge of financial exploitation of a person with a disability.

Lopez is accused of financial theft during his time with Country Financial. He has been sued by several of his own family members.

A six-count indictment was handed down Wednesday by a Sangamon County Grand Jury.

He remains in the Sangamon County Jail on a $1.5 million bond.

An arraignment for the new indictment is scheduled for Dec. 20 at 10 a.m.

The additional indictment relates to new victims who have reportedly come forward.

It alleges Lopez knowingly took control over property or illegally used the assets totaling more than $50,000 of a person with a disability.

The investigation has been ongoing since September.

Western Springs police blotter: Caregiver charged with financial exploitation

The following items were taken from area police department reports and press releases. An arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt.

FINANCIAL EXPLOITATION
Monserosa V. Santana, 43, of the 2400 block of South Keeler Avenue, Chicago, was charged Nov. 10 with financial exploitation of a disabled person, a felony. Santana was working as a person's caregiver, when she allegedly made $306 worth of fraudulent purchases using the person's money or resources between April 6 and June 11.
