The House of Representatives unanimously approved the four articles of impeachment against New Orleans Federal Judge Thomas Porteous.The first article, approved by a vote of 412-0, found the judge had engaged in misconduct by not disclosing his relationship with a lawyer in a federal case involving a Jefferson Parish hospital.
The three subsequent articles were approved by votes of 410-0, 416-0 and 423-0.
He is the 15th judge found to have committed "high crimes and misdemeanors," the Constitution's criteria for impeachment and the second such vote in the last 20 years.
"Our investigation found that Judge Porteous participated in a pattern of corrupt conduct for years," said Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., the chair of a House Task force that reviewed the accusations against Porteous.
"Litigants have the right to expect a judge hearing their case will be fair and impartial, and avoid even the appearance of impropriety," Schiff continued. "Regrettably, no one can have that expectation in Judge Porteous' courtroom. We hope the Senate will schedule the trial expeditiously, so that we may prove our case and remove him from office."

Glad to see the House of Reps. is impeaching him. Should they look, they will find MUCH of this. It goes on in numerous states where guardianships & consevatorships are plentiful. There is no accountability for the guardians & consevators. The elderly and vulnerable are being neglected, abused and exploited every day in this country by the very people the court puts in place to protect. Attorneys, Court System, Court Appointed Guardians, Conservators can all run off with the ward/prisioner/crime victims estate while these victims have no voice. House, please look at these!
woweeeeeeeeeeee this is big news and most unusual cause most of the complaints against judges are buried by those responsible for receiving complaints when will the feds come sniffing around to see the money connection between lawyers and their gang of thugs who represent plaintiffs in guardianship and conservatorship cases nationiwde ~ guaranteed to find wrongdoing in the majority of case files?

Judge Thomas Porteous is a shameful disgrace to the good judges who truly are impartial those who do not participate in wrongdoing "a pattern of corrupt conduct for years" why did it take so long? how many victims? i hope there is investigation into those who knew what they knew and what did they do about it?
This is the kind of action that could bring integrity back to the legal system!
I agree with Lou, there are so many more who should go besides this Porteous. But, I'm glad to see him go!
Follow through now, House of Reps. You know who the other corrupt judges are - start weeding them out!
I am thrilled they got him, and at the same time worried because they're acknowledging that Porteous was corrupt for years. OK, if they knew that, then why did it take so long? I don't mean to take anything away from the House for what they've done here; it's great. But, why does it take so very long to get rid of the garbage? How many innocent people suffer because of this delay?

Rep. Sensenbrenner said Porteous is "one of a kind." NO WAY!
No way is Porteous "one of a kind." Corruption in the courts has grown to a frightening level over the years.
The problem is caused by the failure and refusal of state/federal discipline organizations to do their job, and the fact that they hide under "confidentiality."
How are the state voters to know whom it is safe to vote for?
