Maureen F. Pomeroy, 46, was sentenced in Middlesex Superior Court Monday, after she pleaded guilty March 4 to two counts of larceny from a person over 60, one count of larceny, and one count of embezzlement by fiduciary, Attorney General Martha Coakley said in a statement. Pomeroy was accused of stealing from two clients and one of their sons.“This defendant took advantage of clients who entrusted her with access to their funds and believed that she would assist them with their best interests in mind. ... This defendant is being held accountable for these injustices and is no longer able to practice law,” Coakley said.
Pomeroy will be required to pay $277,292 in restitution to her victims, the statement said.
Pomeroy embezzled some of that money for personal gain and used the rest to repay two other people whom she had previously misappropriated money from, the statement said.

Thelma, attorneys get no punishment for their crimes in PA. I think it is great that this attorney will sit in jail for a year.
One year? Oh I guess crime does pay doesn't it? Geeez this sounds like a perfumed invitation for others to try it and most get away with it but if caught oh well no big deal and non violent offenders can be released early due to overcrowding etc. what a sweeeeeeeet deal.

Restitution is a good thing, but just one year? Well now, if he wasn't a lawyer think he'd get such a deal?
WHY is this attorney required to repay her victims ONLY $277,292 of the nearly $900,000 she stole? Why is this attorney responsible for repaying less than 1/3 of what she stole? Why, in essence, is this attorney allowed to walk away with more than $600,000 by sitting in jail for one year? Would you be willing to sit in jail for one year in return for $600,000?
