79-year-old M.J. is doing physical therapy after a bad spill
in September. She spent three days in the hospital getting the same
care as an in-patient but was not classified as one. Instead, her chart said she
was only UNDER OBSERVATION.
"It was illogical; I had a broken leg, it didn't make sense
at all, what were they going to observe?"
And here is what she didn't understand: that label, under observation, technically made her an out-patient and that means that Medicare won't care for her rehab in a nursing facility which costs $28,000.

Thank you, thank you, thank you NASGA.
Thank you for the reminder. I had heard this a few years back but had forgotten. I appreciate it.
I will remember that. Thank you.
Critical information. From personal experience:
When your elderly loved one is hospitalized I strongly suggest rounding up the troops to ensure the elder has protection: eyes and ears at their side.
Most trusting people believe the hospital is a safe place well, think again.
The danger is not where you might suspect - the danger is management level at the hospital.
Got that?
Social workers - case managers - their supervisors -- got it?
RE: Under observation vs admitted if and when your loved one is admitted you must ask responsible persons starting at the nurses station if loved one is ADMITTED or UNDER OBSERVATION.
Do not leave the hospital until you get the answer and be sure you get it in writing.
If loved one is under observation you need to take immediate actions because your loved one is ONE THE SELF PAY PLAN.
One would think a trusted facility as a hospital would live up to the mission statements at their website - not true, be up front about this - think again just how vulnerable a patient is.
Sneaky dirty tricks at the hospital so please pay very close attention.
There are more dirty tricks at the hospital stay tuned and keep your eyes on:
ABreachOfTrust.com a case about a WWII Veteran for articles in the news, further updates and in the near future federal court documents that will show you the dark side of hospital management and insurance companies.
Currently A Breach of Trust is featuring news / information about Medicare Advantage Plans with particular attention to HUMANA INSURANCE COMPANY king of the tricksters.
MN Attorney General is on to Humana no doubt there are complainants in every state where Humana has a presence every state where Humana Insurance promotes, markets and sells Medicare Advantage Plans.
Tip:
**The Advantage is to the insurance company run as a business.
*** The DisAdvantage is to the member, the enrollee the insured.
'Guidance when you need it most' - pure bs.
Humana Inc. is a for-profit American managed health care company that markets and administers health insurance.
really thanks for the info family of ww2 veteran i plan to go to abreachoftrust.com now to see whats posted there sneaky thugs at hospital management are added to the list of danger zones for more reasons than people have a clue its fact that hospitals are known to petition for guardianship of their patient when there is no just cause or valid reason other than to get control of the patient hide errors and wrongdoing stripping rights from their patient their poa's their family the full monty of people with standing talk about conflict of interest good that this muck is being shoveled out in the sunlight no place is safe so we better get ready now better than later this is so depressing god help us all and god bless america
Let's add another thanks to NASGA for posting this information where is the main stream news media on this?
News we need to know about is often times absent from the major sources that's why I come to NASGA blog every day 7 days a week 365 days a year for news that affects me and my family.
Bottom line: when a family member is hospitalized I agree with Anonymous Family of: WWII Veteran A Breach of Trust, jerri and all the others who commented here bring in YOUR troops. Guarantee you when the vulnerable especially elderly patient is alone a parade of non attending persons parade into the room.
When my relative was hospitalized he was hit on by caregivers morning noon and night who were looking for a full time gig as a live in when the patient was released. Non-stop hounding in my opinion that is elder abuse in the hospital and they get away with it.
In summary: no place is safe
1) banks,
2) hospitals oh beware of the social workers,
3) County Servicies ie Meals on Wheels - did you know probate guardianship attorney's are listed as volunteers? Ask yourself why?
4) Free Dinner Lunches with financial planners estate attorney's you are being targeted
5) And funeral homes especially for the elderly who loses a spouse is #1 target the funeral director, reps have A, B and C list of lawyers in their pockets ready to 'help' the grieving spouse which is the door to lawyer being POA or involuntary of voluntary guardianship of estate and person.
