The following article is from our 2009 archives:
Carol Kinnear, a retired Belleair Elementary teacher in the early stages of Alzheimer's disease, signed an update to her trust in June 2008.
Her wish was clear: For the rest of her life, regardless of her health, she wanted to stay home.
The trust provision, her daughters thought, would assure she could do that.
On Monday, Kinnear, 78, was taken from home and moved to an unnamed facility, the act of a court-appointed guardian. She would be treated there for "high anxiety and confusion," the guardian wrote in an e-mail. Her children, blocked from contact, were told it was in their mother's best interest.
Earlier this year, to safeguard their mother's estate after money had come up missing, they had filed for guardianship in a Pinellas court.
Now they find themselves the victims of unintended consequences, guarded against by the person they had sought for help.
Kinnear's first guardian, Sandra Scott, caused her to fall after giving too high a dose of medication, said Kellee Watt, 45, of Indian Rocks Beach.
Teri St. Hilaire, who replaced Scott on July 1, didn't return phone calls and e-mails from the daughters.

Not much has changed since 2009 except that media has started investigating these cases.
I remember this guardian Teri St. Hilaire.
I believe ISOLATION under any circumstances is wrong.
It's highly unlikely that a ward will benefit from being denied contact with everyone from their former pre-guardianship life.
How many wards have access to money? to valuables? to anything of value?

Remember the brainwashing that is going on family is the new "F" word - keep repeating that and soon society will believe it.
There are good and bad family members since the beginning of humanity.
The protection industry is thriving, profiting financially as well as public guardians who depend on cases for job security and agency funding.
Recipe for DISASTER and to **** with the Constitution.
Wake up folks---- you, me = we are next for the same misery.
Get your Power of Attorney papers in order it's the only way to have a chance to avoid a guardianship.
I agree with the comments especially B Inberg Isolation under any circumstances is wrong punishing the protected one what a crock of _ _ _ _. And I'll say it again we're next and if you think oh how sad but this won't happen to me - perfect set up because if you live long enough in the wrong hands our children will be here at NASGA reading our horror stories. We have a choice read and go shopping or we can do something that will make a difference. I made my choice I cannot walk away from crimes in progress.
This same predatory "Professional Guardian" Teri St.Hilaire, kidnapped my fiance Patricia Smith 19 months ago with the help of APS case worker, Cathy Christmas. The entire process to obtain "human ownership" of Patricia, solely to bleed her estate, was achieved by lying and making false allegations in a petition to Judge Jack St. Arnold who either disregarded Patricia's designations of POA and Health Care Surrogate,(myself primary, and her brother as secondary), or he simply violated the law by not having us both served the initial notice of the "Petition for Guardian Advocate." Ms. Smith was maliciously abducted from her very home by police and APS screaming to me to save her. My beloved Patricia is now kept isolated and medicated in a care home in Dunedin, FL owned by Audra Ackerman, who along with St. Hilaire, will not allow Patricia any mail, phone calls, or visits. St. Hilaire has never returned my phone calls, e-mails or written mail. When I snuck a call through to the home, Patricia begged me to do "whatever it took to get her out of here." Any time I have tried to call, I've been threatened with harassment charges, and on one occasion, they called police stating a lie that I threatened to "shoot everyone and myself" The officer told me to get a lawyer.(I can't find one I trust)...There is so much more to this story, but for now I will assert the following facts in this case: This guardianship was established for the sole purpose of stealing all of Patricia Smith's property and annuity investment without ANY decent consideration for her health or well-being. I have documentation that proves at least 2 or 3 Florida Statutes were broken. One statute regarding this heinous issue of isolation, is a continual violation. I can also prove probate records have been altered, and 1 has seemingly disappeared! There are others I've still yet to discover. One thing I'm certain of. The guardian, APS, and care home owner are pathological liars! They are in this for greed and power. This entire nightmare for Patricia and myself is just one of so many similar stories of this horrid abuse taking place all across our nation. I'm currently fighting this case on various levels, while also fighting with others to abolish these pathetic laws that enable this atrocity of legal human trafficking to continue. Please join all of us in this battle, because the way to win against this profoundly destructive evil, is to inform as many people as possible. Our web of decency needs to be bigger than their web of shameless evil. Elaine, Sylvia, or Lori, if possible, can THIS COMMENT also be posted to BOOMERS AGAINST ELDER ABUSE? Sharing is informing...
It is never in anyones best interest to be isolated !This guardian has no concern for Carol Kinnear. The guardian, St. Hiliare is a disgrace and should be charged with abuse, she should also be dismissed as a professional guardian. The judge disregarded Carol Kinear's wishes, that is disgraceful! How many times has this judge disregarded someones wishes? it looks to me that everything in the guardianship buisness is all about money. These people that do this are Abusers they prey on the defenseless.
