Heather Locklear’s psychiatric hold has reportedly been extended by two weeks as doctors continue to evaluate her wellbeing.
The former Melrose Place actress was hospitalized on November 18 amid reports of a mental breakdown, and she was subsequently placed on a 72-day mandatory psychiatric hold.
According to TMZ.com,
the hold has now been extended by two weeks as doctors determined that
the 57-year-old needed additional treatment and further evaluations that
would require more time. Sources told the website it is unlikely she
will be released before the two weeks are up and the plan is for her to
enter a facility for more long term treatment, although Locklear
reportedly wants to remain at home.
During her stay, her family will reportedly seek a conservatorship so
someone can help Locklear manage her finances and medical treatments,
and come up with a “plan of support” with the advice of medical
professionals.
“During that 14 days, the attorney and the doctor
will go to court and ask for a conservatorship and under that
conservatorship, she is assigned a guardian. Overall, it gives them time
to assess the patient,” a source told People.com.
“The guardian will be the person who safely assists in her care to
make sure she follows the rules and is in a good environment… The
guardian will make sure she is taking the medication and she is living
in an atmosphere of support and will work on keeping her life balanced.
And that is what everyone wants. Everyone wants Heather to live a
healthy and balanced and safe life.”
Locklear entered rehab in
July for treatment for substance abuse and mental health issues
following a series of run-ins with the law.
She has been in and
out of hospital due to health concerns since June, when she was placed
on an involuntary psychiatric hold after allegedly choking her mother
and attacking her father.
She has also had a number of encounters with the law since June,
when she allegedly lunged at police officers who arrived at her home in
Thousand Oaks, California to investigate a reported domestic
disturbance.

I hate this for her. But she's got a right to live her life the way she wants or doesn't want.
