Blotter: Chicago woman charged with financial exploitation of an elderly person in Northbrook

The following items were taken from Northbrook Police Department reports and releases. An arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt.
 
Financial crimes 
 
Halisa Oba, 48, of the 800 block of Grace Street, Chicago, was charged with financial exploitation of an elderly person and unlawful use of a credit card in the 2200 block of Founders Drive after a report from September. Oba is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 20.

A Northbrook resident reported Oct. 8 that they were contacted by someone who claimed to be an Apple representative. The person said there was a problem with the resident’s phone and that they needed to buy $6,000 in gift cards to complete the repair.

A Northbrook resident reported Oct. 12 that someone opened a bank account using their information without permission.

A Northbrook resident reported Oct. 15 that they received messages from their bank that someone attempted to cash checks in their name without permission.
