Thank you for saying it loud and clear: the conservatorship destroyed Bob Queener. That's a very powerful statement, Senator Black, and one that won't be forgotten.

So glad to hear that progress is being made! Thank you Senator Black! Please continue to help us!

Diane and Barbara,
This is just the beginning as we already have a commitment of our IA Senators to work with us this summer to thoroughly reformulate the IA Guardian Codes.
We made a showing at the IA State House on the 7th of March, distributed booklets, visited with many of the key legislators and more.
Please feel free to get in touch with myself or Elaine if you would like to help out and be part of the great changes that will take place from here on going into the next legislative session starting Jan, 2012

Losing family heirlooms is very difficult to deal with. Sometimes they mean much more than money - even photographs.

Thank you, Sen. Black, for taking such a strong interest in this case.

Although I am a Texan, I want to thank both Senator Black and Senator Hatch.. We need more honesty in the Government. People who really hear and care what the citizens are saying. Government with a Heart. Thanks so much. Guardianship needs major reform through all agencies, APS, CPS, The Probate Courts. and many more. Very Important is oversight, monitering and accountability without accountability these types of abuses will contiue. Keep up the good work.

Job well done Jay!

Bob Queener is very fortunate, he is blessed to have Senator Black in his corner. Moving speech I can feel the emotion, spoken from the heart. Thank you for caring.

Everything that he was--his identity--was stolen from him. Very powerful words that perfectly describe what is like to be under the control of a forced guardianship.
Thank you so much Senator Black for having the courage to shine the light on this dark, ugly secret of the probate courts!

Norma said...

Wow is right. This video gives me hope that things can and will change. Thank you, Mr. Hatch and Mr. Black. And thank you NASGA too. You are all great!

Dora said...

Thank you, Jay Driesen, for visiting the legislators and bringing our issue to them. You've found a couple of keepers in Senators Hatch and Black. Thank you all.

Thank you Senator Black and Senator Hatch, This is long over due! It is happening all over America. The guardians and attorneys have become so greedy and our elderly and their family's are paying a big price. Thank you and please keep up the fight for guardianship reform.

MY FAVORITE PART IS WHEN SENATOR BLACK SAYS SOMETHING LIKE, SOMETIMES YOU'VE GOT TO EXPERIENCE SOMETHING YOURSELF TO BELIEVE IT!

I pray for the continued success of these senators, NASGA member Jay Driesen, and all of those who support their efforts.

Thank you for being in this world!

The fire is burning bright in Iowa thanks to these men.

A special thanks to Senator Black for getting involved in Bob Queener's case and for your continued friendship with him.

Mary Beth said...

I don't know about the rest of you, but as I watched the senator, I was so happy, I started crying.

Thank you all!

I think the temporary guardian should be thrown in jail for the way Bob Queener's property was handled. We know there is theft of property and valuables no one is watching the guardians. I can imagine what would be found in their personal residences if anyone went looking on a surprise visit and no one ever finds any cash do they? I tell you this is wrong wrong wrong Mr. Queener worked for his stuff, it's his right to dispose of it the way he wants to.

Jay Driesen said...

Thank you all for your compassion.
Any Iowa folks who have a guardian problem, please come forward. We are in great need of your help and support. As stated, we will be working with these two senators and other senators to rewrite the IA guardian codes. Right there is where we would like to organize our efforts, work with these 3 or 4 senators, hear your stories and get the proper changes in the codes for presentation to the IA legislature first thing when the next session starts in January 2012. If some of you family members of victims feel unsafe, that is very understandable. We will keep your identity confidential.
Please do give me a call. We have no choice but to succeed and that we will do.
The best to all of you.
Jay

Kudos to Senators Hatch and Black. And shame on the senator who voted "Nay"; that vote is shameful.

In Illinois we have a major problem with the Probate Courts in Cook County. We have identified a number of cases in which Predatory Guardianships prevail. Powers of Attorneys are removed; the elderly are stalked and deceived by owners of guardianship companies; wills are illegally altered with deaths hastened through illegal admissiion into Hospice, without qualifying Medicare criteria; wards estates are depleted with exhorbitant fees; and estate funds are placed in OBRA trusts while the ward is placed into public aid housing while the guardians and attorneys fees devour the estate. There are also real estate transactions where the wards' estates are sold quickly and then quickly re-sold for a profit; this has been occurring for a number of years, during both strong and weak real estate markets.

What is occurring in Illinois has approached the level of organized crime, with exploitation and racketeering evident.

We hope and pray our legislators and law enforcers investigate and take action. Each day another disabled person is being stalked and exploited in Illinois. This includes the elderly, and the handicapped.

We plead for help in Illinois, as well in other states where this is occuring.

To say this is appalling is an understatement.

This is so impressive! We think our legislators aren't listening and it's wonderful to find some who are!

Kay said...

Jay's absolutely right. Iowa victims, please come forward and join NASGA. The more victims speak up and work together, the quicker reform will come.

Thank you, Jay, for your hard work. And thank you Senators for listening!

Nancy said...

Does anybody know what happened to the DHS persons who made the mistake on Mr. Queener?

Making a mistake is human, unfortunately. What's unforgivable is that no one listened when Mr. Queener complained and that it had to take a Senator to get involved to get any action.

My thanks to you, Senator Black.

Truly these two gentlemen really are protecting Iowa's citizens and not just talking.

If only we all had such Senators!

I can imagine Bob Queener and his family smiling ear to ear as they watch this fantastic video.

Thank you all so much for the encouraging words. Correct me if I am wrong, but after watching our Mother suffer so heavily, the #1 item on the To Do list appears to get the state guardian codes changed and at least back to honoring the constitutional right of due process. Next is the honoring of advance directives such as wills, trusts and etc along with the care taker appointments contained in them.
True, this guardian "machine" is huge and complicated but enough of us, all doing what we can, will get the thing dismantled one part at a time.
This corrupt "machine" of human destruction and corrupt polititians so related to it need to take heed...this is the shot across the bow that will lead to victory. The issue is the right of life, liberty, property and the pursuit of happiness. If this animal of destruction, that tears and devours the weak and elderly, is not brought down, soon no one will be safe in this once great nation.

My mother was rendered functionally incompentent and then the court wouldn't let her return to her home, and then the Plenary Guardian looted Mom's safety deposit box, emptied her home, is selling her home, isolated Mom from friends and family, drugged her, et cetera. To stop me from tring to save my mother's life, the court accused me of the elder abuse and financial exploitation, seized all my money, cuffed me to a metal chair and threatened my freedoms, took control of my home and mortgage, and ***. This amendment is useless beacsue Probate Courts care little about what is right and wrong, and only about churning assets until the elder, and all people who ae trying to save the elder's life, are either dead, or destroyed. Mickey Rooney's story should have stopped all this crap: instead, elders like my mother will die in a strange bed, believing the people they trusted and loved abandoned them. I have cited every rule, case, and law that protects Elders and American Citizens, and even reported the horrors to Illinois Senators, and in retaliation, I was handcuffed to a metal chair and my life and freedoms threatened. Indeed, I am intimidated. And they seized all of my money, of which most was for my health. I am a breast cancer survivor! No progress has ben made, folks. Guardian Ad Litems churn estates of elders and all people who try and stop the horrors, are destroyed in their paths. Senator Black helped no one, but it clearly looks good, huh? My mother is 92-years old, She plays winning hands of canasta, bowls, miniture golf, gardens, and all her rights, her money, her home, her family and friends, and me, her best friend (and she is mine) just because they can.

Texas could use some leaders of Sen Black's character to fix the probate mess here.

Anonymous said...

Last Anon you need to get the story straight and get some background information about SENATOR BLACK's role in helping BOB QUEENER.

Apologies to Senator Black and all the good Senators of Iowa.

Velma said...

Bob Queener's problem happened because of a mistake made by DHS. I am glad to see Senator Black say it loud and clear because it has also happened in many of our cases.

DHS is too powerful, in my opinion. And when they are wrong, the damage done is deeper because of their power.

Johnny said...

All eyes are on Iowa and we're all smiling as we're watching!

I think the last Anon did just get it wrong. Obviously he/she has been through hell and perhaps just didn't hear the strong words from Senator Black correctly.

Sen. Black should be the chairman for the committee on aging. We need someone like him here in Nevada.

I am happy to know that there is one legislator who is concerned with what is going on with elder abuse and corrupt probate system.

jerri said...

Bob Queener's problem happened because of a mistake made by DHS.

i disagree that this was a mistake made in good faith and if it was why didn't they correct their mistake?

if they victim has money income assets property the mistake was intentional always remember follow the $ motive and intent

I can't help it....I've been back to watch this video several times!

When I'm feeling down and thinking I can't win, I will come back and watch this video to give me strength and hope.

Senator Black gets it - by the unfortunate way of viewing the horrors and aftermath of abuse. He now has a national platform from which to speak out.

Rachael said...

I agree, jerri, DHS probably didn't make the mistake on Queener in good faith or they would have just stopped everything in its tracks when the mistake was pointed out to them. I think they're just so arrogant, that they think they're always right. Not only that, but there has been alot of effort put into demonizing families so that the public almost always thinks the family is the perp. And sometimes, the family is. But most of the time, the family is advocating for their loved one and the other side is merely trying to neutralize them.

Polly said...

I just heard about this through facebook and couldn't wait to see the video. I was not disappointed!

Thank you, Senators.
