Adults With Autism Losing the Safety Net

What happens to autistic children when they grow up and leave the educational system where federal law requires they get the services they need? We visit two families struggling to provide a future for their adult sons with autism.

I think the hardest thing for a parent of a severly autistic child is planning for when that parent will no longer be around.

No doubt these decisions are the toughest decisions a parent or family member will ever make.

In its current state of affairs ---- legal guardianship is not much of a happy ending, exceot in those rare instances where it works as intended.
