Man convicted of having sex with incapacitated person

A Walton County jury has convicted Ponce de Leon resident Jerald Stinson of having sex with a mentally incapacitated person.

Stinson, 52, was arrested just over a year ago following a month-long investigation by the DeFuniak Springs Police Department.

He had bragged about having sex with the victim, and investigators obtained a statement from the victim acknowledging sexual intercourse, according to a report filed following Stinson’s arrest.

The victim, though an adult, was not able to give lawful consent to sexual acts, the report said.

Stinson was a long-time friend of the victim’s family.

Circuit Court Judge Kelvin Wells will impose sentence July 19, a news release from the First Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office said.

Stinson faces up to 30 years in prison.

NY: Former Nursing Home Worker Convicted of Sexually Abusing Patients

A former employee of an upstate nursing home was convicted Tuesday of sexually abusing six residents who had suffered traumatic brain injuries, the New York state Attorney General’s office announced.

Jacky Stanley will face between 8 1/3 and 25 years in prison, according to Attorney General Eric Schneiderman. He was convicted of offenses against all six victims at the Northeast Center for Special Care in Lake Katrine, Ulster County, and all the victims testified at trial, Schneiderman said in a news release.

“Jacky Stanley used his position as a caretaker to commit reprehensible and disturbing acts of abuse. The bravery shown by his victims at trial will help ensure that he will never be able to terrorize vulnerable New Yorkers again,” Schneiderman said in the release.

The nursing home provides care to those who have suffered traumatic brain injuries caused by stroke, car accidents, falls and other incidents. Stanley was responsible for helping new residents get acclimated, and helped manage the social environment and ensure that residents participated in required programs as a “neighborhood counselor,” the release said.

Nursing home abuse case ends with LPN's conviction

CLANTON, AL (WSFA) - A former employee of a Chilton County nursing home facility has pleaded guilty to abuse of one of the residents she was tasked to care for, confirms Attorney General Luther Strange's office.

Katherine Blevins Lenoir, 53, of Maplesville, entered her plea Wednesday to one count of reckless abuse of a protected person, a class C felony.

Lenoir was a licensed practical nurse, or LPN, at Don Hatley Healthcare and Rehabilitation of Clanton, when she admitted to inadvertently administering a large dose of a narcotic pain medication to a female resident. The victim was supposed to be taking cough medicine.

Prosecutors said Lenoir's actions crossed into criminal territory when she set about manipulating treatment records to inaccurately show she'd given the correct medication instead of immediately notifying facility management of what had happened.

The victim suffered an overdose of the narcotic and nearly died, according to prosecutors. She was found by a nurse on a later shift and rushed to a hospital's intensive care unit. She was later released.
An investigation started after the AG's office says the nursing facility's management promptly reported the incident.

Lenoir, who no longer is employed at the facility, faces up to 10 years in prison. She'll learn her fate in a May 11 sentencing hearing.
