THE MANASSAS SENIOR DAY PROGRAM WILL CLOSE JUNE 20, UNLESS THE VOICE OF THE PEOPLE IS HEARD!
On April 29, the County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously, and without notifying families, to close the Manassas Senior Day Program which has provided loving day care and therapeutic activities for seniors with Alzheimer's or physical disabilities for over 17 years.
They blame 'budget constraints' yet this program costs the County less than $150,000 a year, and millions are spent on golf courses, a performing arts center, new office buildings, museums, a new 24 hour fitness center exclusively for county employees, incentives to large corporations, etc.
PLEASE ATTEND THE JUNE 17, 2:00 PM BOARD OF SUPERVISORS MEETING AND SPEAK FOR THOSE UNABLE TO SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES.
Please call 792-6000 and ask to be connected to your Supervisor, or use email addresses below. THANKS!

Day care is excellent intervention for elders who want to continue living at home.
It is telling of this society that money exists for golf courses, workout rooms, etc. while elder facilities are eliminated.
Daycare can prevent institutionalism and guardianship which is much more expensive.......and PROFITABLE.
PROFIT: That is what drives everything including the cost on humans.
Not a lot of notice was given to the seniors and their families, sounds intentional to me.
Priorities are a disgrace and shameful, but these folks do not know the meaning of shame.
The very folks that they are disregarding are the generations that sacrificed and helped to build our country - nice way of the younger generations saying "thank you"! "now, just go away".
I wonder if the state prisons and county jails are cutting out programs and perks that are spent on convicted criminals?
Imagine the disappointed Seniors when they can't gather for companionship, socialisation, check-ups, and just plain enjoyment!
They can come up with the golf course fee (and the cart), or perhaps go to workout at the workout center, (lift weights?).
These elders enjoy their time at the center and their friendships. But why would elders need friendships, ......or their homes, or their health. It will probably eventually go to a guardian.
NASGA has plenty to accomplish!
Seniors fall to the bottom of the barrell -- again.
This is a shameful example that seniors don't have much "worth" in today's society.
Another fight to keep seniors from losing relatively inexpensive services -- seniors always come in last!
