A Livingston County woman has been bound over for trial in connection with the embezzlement of money from a local social service agency.
38-year-old Laura Lynn Turner waived her preliminary exam last week to four felony charges of embezzling between one and twenty thousand dollars from the Oakland Livingston Human Services Agency, where she formerly worked as head of the guardianship program, which oversaw clients through the Probate Court.
Turner has since been fired by OLHSA and the program closed down. It’s alleged she stole at least $32,000.

It's obviously the fault of the probate system due to lack of monitoring and oversight.
Agree, Thelma. But, I'll add to that...it's also that when wards or family do complain, the judges ignore them.
Hope she also goes to jail!
You can be sure that she stole far more than $32,000.
What this article doesn't say, is that she is the one who turned herself in! She knew what she had done was wrong and attempted to remedy the situation. It also doesn't say that she reported herself without anyone knowing what she had done. She was the only one running the guardian program and could have probably continued stealing for some time before actually getting caught. What it also doesn't say, is that when she turned herself in, she did so with a check to repay a large portion of money she had taken. I hate how the press doesn't report the truth. She did wrong, yes, but exhibited much integrity while trying to fix this situation. I wonder if anyone of us would be brave enough to do the same.
Times are tough for almost everyone. I admire the integrity it takes to get through without violating such trust.
She may have told others that she turned herself in, but only after her work was audited and she knew she was caught. For those who are so quick to forgive, I wonder how you would feel if it were you or your loved ones' money that was stolen?
