Widow Granted Guardianship

The widow of former Tennessee Titans quarterback Steve McNair has been granted the right to act as guardian for her children's inheritance.

In a hearing held inside a judge's chambers on Wednesday, Mechelle McNair was granted guardianship of her two children, 5-year-old Trenton and 10-year-old Tyler.

She already has been appointed the administrator of her husband's estate, and a judge gave her 60 days to complete an inventory of her husband's assets. He didn't leave a will.

She's their MOTHER for crying out loud, why would she have to have guardianship?

Boy, this sounds like mom was close to losing the kids to who, why huh? What's this guardianship issue about? Is this a way for legal fees? Billing? I am confused about this.

Unsigned wills - no wills = roadmap to potential disaster especially when there are minors involved.

Guardianship is needed for the mother of the children to proceed signing papers related to the estate of Steve McNair who died with unsigned will?

Gosh, who would think all of this was in their future and in the future of how many unsuspecting families out there who might have to face the same situation and they don't have a clue.

Yes, this smells foul to me. Apparently guardianship was used as a tool here.

It must have to do with money -- but we may never know the true reason the McNair children were targeted for guardianship

I was just about to say that, Anonymous 1.

What is the need for guardianship in the case of a natural mother?

Are the judges and lawyers getting desperate for $$$?

I hope this is unusual, not the usual.
