Anthony D. Marshall, who was convicted of siphoning millions from his mother, Brooke Astor, was sentenced Monday to one to three years in prison.
Justice A. Kirke Bartley Jr. said Mr. Marshall, who is 85, must report to prison on Jan. 19.
The sentence was for the most serious of 14 counts on which Mr. Marshall was convicted: first-degree grand larceny, for giving himself a retroactive lump-sum raise of about $1 million for managing his mother’s finances. Justice Bartley also sentenced Mr. Marshall to one year on each of the 13 other charges he was convicted of, to run at the same time as the longer sentence.
If Mr. Marshall has a good record in prison, he is likely to serve roughly eight months behind bars. He showed no response as Justice Bartley read the sentence, although his wife, Charlene, was heard to sob from her seat in the courtroom.

OK, I'm going to take a unpopular side here. I don't think Marshall should go to prison, nor do I even think he should have been convicted.
If a professional guardian was in charge of Brooke Astor, the damage to her estate would have been much worse and no one would have paid any attention.
On the care issues, if it's true that he scrimped on her care and comfort, that's awful. I just don't know if that's true that he did or not.
1-3 years is a light sentence.
He'll probably go to a posh jail - like Martha Stewart did.
I still feel bad for Brooke Astor ending up with a legacy of abuse.
I think it could have been handled much differently - and should have.
Going to jail at 85 has got to be a scary thing. Going to jail at any age would scare the bejeebers out of me.
Regardless of age, there has to be a lesson - for others!
yeah Betty's right a professional guardian could bill the ward into poverty and nobody says boo about it you have to admit though Anthony Marshall got real greedy and worse than that he wasn't taking good care of Brook Astor so for that he deserves what he got anybody know how much the lawyers billed for all this?
