Guardians Can Now Adopt Wards

A bill allowing legal guardians to adopt children in their care is now law.

The bill signed by Governor Markell adds legal guardians to the list of people who can petition family court to terminate parental rights and seek adoption.

The bill's co-sponsors, Representative Pam Thornburg and Senator Nancy Cook, say the new law will help about 100 families in Delaware give kids under their guardianship stable, secure environments in which to grow up.

I am trying to think how a good thing like this could turn sour. I like to think guardians of children have their best interest in mind, but that may be wishful thinking.

It's a good and bad thing. Good because many guardians of children do so for the right reasons.

Bad because it gives guardians more power. They have more than enough power now.

Good thing IF the Guardian does not receive MONEY
for caring for the children
they are adopting.

Foster Parents in CT receive $2600 per month for every child they take into their home. State calls it a 'safe home'. It's in fact, a 'group home' and many or no more than warehousing kids who live with total strangers; other kids with various backgrounds; emotional, criminal, etc. that are NOT addresed by the 'warehouse' parents. They are fed TV dinners (full of preservatives), hot dogs (full of nitrates). The child's culture is not provided for; the child's previous
activities are not provided for, etc. The State receives $160,000 from the Fed Gov't for every child the State takes into custody. Legal kidnapping for profit is a National Epidemic as is
Legal elder snatching. Feeds State Governments' coffers and the court appointed 'professionals' fatten their wallets to 'play along to get along'.
